Hardanger embroidery piece must be the original design work of the entrant.
Entries should be submitted in the form of color photographs not smaller than 3" x 4" accompanied by a stamped self-addressed return envelope. DO NOT SEND ACTUAL HARDANGER EMBROIDERY PIECE. IT WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.
Entries must be signed on the back of the photograph, together with the entrant's address and size of the piece submitted. Such entries constitute a declaration that the entrant is the designer and maker of the piece submitted. If entrant is under 18 years old, the entry must be signed by a parent or guardian.
The contest will be judged by Rosalyn Watnemo and Susan Meier, owners of Nordic Needle, Inc. The judging will take place in two stages. First, on the basis of the photographs, judges will select the finalists. Makers of these Hardanger embroidery pieces will be asked to send in their entries at their own expense. Final judging will be of the actual pieces.
Entries will be judged on overall beauty and attractiveness (35 points), technique and workmanship (40 points), and originality of design (25 points).

The judges' decision will be final. No correspondence will be entered into about the contest after April 11, 2009.

Prizes will be as follows: The top six scoring designs will be awarded top honors and will receive $125.00 per design. Two to five honorable mentions will be awarded $100.00 each. In addition, all prize-winning Hardanger embroidery pieces will be published in a book including the autobiographies and pictures of the designers.

Each entrant may submit only one entry per year. Mail photograph with entry blank to Nordic Needle, Inc., 1314 Gateway Drive SW, Fargo, ND 58103. All entries must be received by April 8, 2009, postmarked no later than March 31, 2009.
The names, pictures and biographical information of all winners will be published in a book, along with the prize-winning Hardanger embroidery patterns. Entry will be deemed consent for use of winner's name, photograph and Hardanger embroidery design. All rights to the winning design will become the property of Nordic Needle, Inc. Pieces will be returned to the finalist as soon as possible at the expense of Nordic Needle Inc.. Taxes, if any, are the responsibility of the winners.
Contest is not open to professional embroiderers who have published their own book of Hardanger embroidery patterns or to judges and their families. Designs which have been previously published are not eligible.
