I have several of these laying tools. They work great for laying threads evenly. I did all of Santa of the Forest using one and it looks great! I also find it useful when I am removing stitches. The extra length, over a needle's length, makes it easier on my hand. I did break one, but at such an inexpensive price I can always afford to replace it.

The least expensive bone needle in the catalog is, sadly, as weak as one might gather from looking at the pictures at the needles' differences. I purchased this item less than 3 weeks ago and it broke the second time it was lain down to keep the threads straight. I was incredulous but realized that this would have been a great tool for someone who is far more delicate that I.
