Product Description
SALE - only: $13.10! Schwalm embroidery is named after the region along the Schwalm River known as 'die Schwalm', in Germany. Beautiful and delicate, it is a form of late eighteenth to nineteenth century whitework embroidery which incorporates surface stitches, pulled fabric, drawn thread, needlelace and needleweaving, and was traditionally embroidered on blouses, shirts, and stockings, pillowcases, top sheets, and towels. Traditional design elements are based on the 'tree of life'. These include hearts, tulips, the sun, pine cones, flowers, fruit, leaves, tendrils, and the pigeon dove. Projects included in this book are: an heirloom cloth; sampler; pincushion, scissor tag, and needlecase; repeating designs suitable for beginners such as a linen hand towel with band, soap, or hosiery bag; tea cosy, table centre, or cloth design with a needlelace edge and serviette with needlelace feature; as well as other designs suited to more experienced embroiderers. The colour photographs in this book show clearly the intricacy and beautfy of the work, while the author, an experienced teacher, explains the ways to recreate it in simple stages, accompanied by numerous step-by-step drawings which help to clarify the instructions.
