This is my least favorite of my four blackwork books. It's a Dover reprint of a 1965 edition, and some of the illustrations show it. The historical information is interesting, but the instructional content is hard to use. Patterns are hand-drawn without graphs, so you'd have to do some guesswork to put them into use. Much of the content also covers design planning with crayon sketches or with cut-newspaper shapes. This may be inspiring to some, but didn't give me a good path to attempting my own designs.
