Hardanger Embroidery Box Lid Design (May/June 2003)

picture of finished designBy Roz Watnemo

Because of the many requests for this Hardanger design we used as a class piece at our Retreat, I am releasing it for the free May Hardanger Embroidery Design.  You can use any color fabric and thread to suit your decor, but I have listed what is shown on the photo.

    Finished Design Size:

    • on 28 count is 4 1/2" x 4 1/2"

    Materials:

    • 9" x 9" Lugana 28 count fabric, Mushroom color
      item #3270-309
    • 1 skein Needle Necessities #8 pearl cotton, color NN008-81941, Passion Flower
    • lining fabric of your choice (I used a green)
    • Wooden box with 5" opening, item 7446

    Working Instructions:

Fold the fabric in half both ways to find the center point. Stitch the center satin stitch blocks and continue with the solid motifs, box stitch, twisted bars, feathered eyelets, woven bars, picots and webs.

If worked on 22 count Hardanger fabric, the finished size will be 5 1/2" x 5 1/2". Use size #5 pearl cotton for the satin stitch blocks and solid motifs and size #8 for all other stitches.  It would then work in a larger box like the ones shown here.
