An original Hardanger embroidery design by Roz Watnemo
This design may be copied and shared or used for classes, but may not be sold.
Finished Design Size:
Materials:
- 14" x 14" 28 count Lugana fabric, mushroom color by Zweigart, item #3270-309
- 1 ball Anchor pearl cotton size #8, color 387 cream, dk., item #AN008-0387
Working Instructions:
From a corner of the fabric, measure 3.5" to the left and 3.5" down to begin the first satin stitch block in the corner of the design. Work all the satin stitch blocks and continue with solid motifs, cable stitch, partial eyelets, and corner quarter eyelets running diagonally from each corner. Finish with cutting, woven bars, picots and webs.
Hemming your design:
Count out 60 fabric threads on all four sides of your piece. Trim away excess fabric after the 60th thread. Fold ten threads under on all four sides and use a hot iron to press. Fold again, 25 threads in from the first fold and press. Miter the corners and stitch your hem in place. There will be 25 fabric threads on the top of your design to the edge, 25 threads on the back up to the stitch row and 10 threads folded under. If you need help with the hemming, there are many good instruction books on hemming and mitered corners. We cover this in our book 0105, Beginners Charted Hardanger Embroidery and 0101 Hardanger Embroidery Favorites I.
