Award-Winning Designs in Hardanger 2013 #0251
In 1979, Roz and Sue of Nordic Needle in Fargo, North Dakota, had been in business for only 4 years. Their main focus then (and now) was to promote the fine Norwegian needleart of Hardanger Embroidery. One of the ways to accomplish this was to hold a contest and invite Hardanger stitchers to design their own original piece of Hardanger embroidery. That first year's contest brought ninety-five entries from stitchers all over the USA and into Canada! From this collection, twenty-two designs were chosen and the first "Award-Winning Designs in Hardanger Embroidery" book was published, showcasing the winning designs.
Thirty-five years later, the contest is still alive and well with entries coming in from all over the world as creativity and originality continues! Truly an international competition, this Norwegian embroidery technique has broken through the ethnic borders and claimed its position as a favored needleart around the world. This year the designers are from North Dakota, Minnesota, Massachusetts, Florida, Georgia, Colorado, and Pennsylvania in the USA, and from the countries of Spain, Japan, Australia and Russia. Winners include first place awards to Mamen Arias (Hardanger Carpacar), Sumiko Fukuzen, Alice Greenspan, Megumi Hatada, Janet Kiefer, and Susan McAndrew; honorable mentions to Joan Andrews, Laurie DeScalzo, Kathi Green, Robin Knutson, Lynne Marihart, Maria Perminova, and Mary Swartz.
The "Award-Winning Designs in Hardanger Embroidery 2013" book is filled with thirteen inspiring designs for the intermediate to advanced Hardanger stitcher. Create an heirloom by stitching any of these stunning Hardanger designs offered in this latest edition in the Award-Winning Hardanger Embroidery Designs.
