This 10" pillow introduces you to two of the directional movements in Kogin. Kogin is a uniquely Japanese needlework technique that was born of a practical desire for warmth, and the need to strengthen fabric used in everyday life. It is recognizable by its geometric designs which are embroidered with thick threads on a base fabric. It dates back to the 1600's and has quite an interesting history. Spiral bound, 20 pages. This pillow is inspired by the arrangement of zabutons (floor mats) in a traditional Japanese home. Each segment will provide experience in working a different tyoe of Kogin design. Some basic knowledge of Kogin is necessary. A suggested resource is Techniques of Japanese Kogin, sold separately.
