You don't have to finish your piece as a purse. This design lets you experiment with the Naversom stitches. Basic stitch instructions are not included. Naversom originated in the Halsingland region of Sweden where samples have been found from the 17th and 18th centuries. The name translates to "birch bark embroidery" because the shepherdess stretched her work onto a birch bark frame. This project was inspired by the practical designs shown in older Naversom books, including purses, cigarette cases, and lamp shades. A knowledge of Swedish Naversom is assumed. If you are new to this technique, you may want to familiarize yourself with the basics detailed in Techniques of Swedish Naversom, sold separately. Spiral bound.
If you choose to kit this pattern, the supplies listed are to complete one pattern as represented, unless otherwise noted. Our staff suggested substitutions appear in parentheses.
