Naversom Study in Contrasts #2369
- Intermediate Skill level
- Finished size ~10" square
This doily begins with a 15" square of 35-count fabric. This needlework technique originated in the Halsingland district of Sweden, where samples have been found from the 17th to 18th century. The word Naversom translates as "Birch-Bark Embroidery", taking its name from the birch bark frame originally used by the shepherdess to support the embroidery as it was being stitched. This is a Pulled/Drawn Thread technique. A knowledge of Swedish Naversom is assumed. If you are new to this technique, you may want to familiarize yourself with the basics detailed in Techniques of Swedish Naversom, sold separately. Spiral bound, 10 pages.
