Temari means "hand ball" and they were originally created as toys for children. A variety of threads are used to create patterns on a hard center core. Make your own core ball or start right away with pre-formed balls. You need a long Temari needle also. The design in this book provides instructions on a classic Temari design. It appears more difficult to create than it actually is. The Chrysanthemum design symbolizes the triumph of beauty over adversity. See the material list for suggested colors. If you are using a 3" ball you should use size 5 pearl cotton and Kreinik #12 braid. For a smaller ball, you should use Size 8 pearl cotton and #8 Kreinik braid.
