This is a downloadable pattern and is not eligible for returns and must be purchased separately from regular stock items. To view this pattern you will need an Adobe Acrobat (PDF) viewer.Schwalm is a form of whitework embroidery named for a region along the Schwalm River in central Germany. Examples date from the late 17th century and were filled with surface stitches. Then later during the 18th and 19th centuries, drawn thread fillings were added proceeding the technique we recognize today. This project consists of a trivet and set of coasters, designed as an experiment with multiple different edgings and open darning patterns. These choices can be combined in many different ways, or used as shown on the models. The set includes a variety of surface embroidery edgings and open filling patterns commonly used in traditional Schwalm embroidery. To add textural interest, the model uses Silk threads for the open darning patterns, and some of the edgings. The trivet design can be stitched in two different sizes and will fit inside a 6" or 7" square trivet by Sudberry House, or completed as a small pillow. 23 pages. A basic knowledge of Schwalm is required. A good reference is the Techniques of Schwalm, sold separately. The set of coasters is also available from Sudberry House (see related products below).
