Yugoslavian embroidery shows peasant art at its best, using designs passed down over the generations. It is diverse in appearance and it is hard to document its history. In its history, a rich variety of techniques have been worked on diverse materials (linen, wool, cotton and leather) using multiple sewing materials (linen, silk, metallic threads, beads, shells, and sequins). The fabrics used are Aida or Hardanger where there is a prominent weave with easy-to-see holes. The technique is like pattern darning where the design is laid over the weave of the fabric. A knowledge of Yugoslavian Weaving is assumed. If you are new to this technique, you may want to familiarize yourself with the basics detailed in Techniques of Yugoslavian Weaving, sold separately. It is easy to learn and fun to do. Spiral bound, 12 pages. The Triple Play Doily is composed of three specific patterns that could be stitched individually. The colors are typical of the vibrant color combinations that traditionally would have been used.
