Kogin is a traditional Japanese style of embroidery often worked by farmers to join fabrics together and reinforce them for warmth and stability, rather like the British wartime tradition of 'make do and mend'. The designs were usually geometric, often diamond shaped and the running stitches varied in length. It was stitched in rows along the weft of the fabric and it was worked in the hand without using a frame. Elizabeth provides instructions, color diagrams, and materials suggestions. Suggested supplies: 12" piece of 28 count evenweave fabric; DMC #12 pearl cotton in your preferred color to complement fabric.
